…To the Hospital we Go…

Love Gautemala seems to have an enormous amount of people asking
for medical help….perscriptions, doctor’s appointments, surgery…
and the list seems to be never ending. There is no medical care system
here as in North America…you pay for everything, many just give up
and die…..
This is the story of two little girls…both should have had surgery many years ago when they were a year old…now they are 11 and 6…for Dora the 11 year old the damage is almost unrepairable…for Lucero, there may be a chance to fix her hip….

We were given the name of the Foundation and decided to see what they had to say…some of the news was comforting, but not all…

…it was a difficult place to find…

this part of the city has no street addresses….

So trail and error we found it!

…as you can see the sign is not very big!….

…the waiting room…60 + kids and their parents…

what is our number…27 and 28….and they are on #16

This is a free hospital for children birth to age 18….

Many of the children that we saw had cleft paletts, mentally and physically

challenged, malnourished, etc…

…the Special doctor who tells you and good, bad and ugly news…

He told us that the girls needed to see an orthopedic surgeon…

the appointment was for 3pm…it is now 12:30…

so it is time for lunch.

…the next appointment was across the street form a mall…

let’s go and eat….the families had never been to the mall before and

the excalator was a scary thing!  With little shrieks of fear, we made

it to the fourth floor….

…then it was off to the medical clinic in the SIEMENS building…

…the office of the orthopedic surgeon….

His news for both girls was OK…

Lucero will be booked for hip surgery for September, 2013, if all goes well

the bone should develop and she will not have one leg shorter…

Dora….well…they will book her for surgery in September also…

it all depends on who the surgeons from around the world are that will be coming.

This could be one of three surgeries….

She is now beginning physio therapy …she lives 2 hours from the clinic

but it is free…so they will be gone for most of the afternoon….

Pray that mom and dad will go through with this….

this therapy will help her body….and then maybe surgery can be done in

September…she needs a miracle!
